자연 속 예술 판타지 - 제월섬 이야기 
2022년 섬진강국제실험예술제  "제월섬 국제자연미술판타지"는 자연을 통해 인간의 순수한 상상과 근원적 심미안을 찾아가는 순수예술축제입니다.
예술과 자연에 대한 아름다움의 신성한 경험들, 그 마음의 심연을 따라 인간과 자연의 관계를 태고로 이끌어 갑니다. 

 ‘제월섬’은 ‘제월(霽月)’의 의미처럼 맑게 갠 하늘에 뜬 달과 같이 섬진강(순자강) 위에 둥실 떠 있는 아름답고 생명력 넘치는 숲이 우거진 섬이다. 
1980년 묘목 재배지로 쓰이던 제월섬은 다양한 수종의 나무들과 함께 여러 종의 동식물 개체군들이 살고 있다. 인근에는 조선시대 호남 4대 정자에 속할 
만큼 아름다움을 자랑하는 전라남도 유형문화재 ‘함허정涵虛亭’과, ‘황조롱’이 등 야생동물들이 서식하는 제월습지도 있어 섬진강을 찾는 이들에게 역사
와 깨끗한 생태 환경을 체험할 수 있게 하는 최적의 장소이다.  또 현재 제월섬 내에서 정기적으로 운영하고 있는 곡성군 미래교육재단의 ‘꿈놀자학교’ 는 
지역민의 생태 감수성을 키우는 교육의 장으로 각광받고 있다. 
이에 ‘섬진강국제실험예술제’는 [제월섬 국제자연미술판타지]를 통해 자연생태가 잘 보존되어 있고 교육적 가치가 높은 제월섬을 중요한 지역의 생태자원
으로 인식하며 ‘섬진강’과 ‘제월섬’의 가치를 예술과 결합, 비교적 문화예술이 취약한 전라남도 동부권지역의 대표적인 ‘자연생태예술섬’으로 특화시키기 
위한 프로젝트를 시작하게 되었다. 특히 축제가 열리는 제월리는 1980년대 중반 구석기유물에 대한 보고가 있었던 곳으로 인류의 삶을 반추하며 강한 자연
의 생명력과 예술적 영감을 불러오기에 최상의 지리적 조건을 가지고 있다. 
‘섬진강국제실험예술제(SIEAF)’는 이러한 배경을 바탕으로 원시미가 살아있는 제월섬의 가치를 자연친화적 문화예술콘텐츠로 연결하며 차별화된 지역의 
역사와 지리적 특징을 새롭게 모델링하는 원년으로 2022년을 열게 될 것이다.

이 행사를 주최주관하는 한국실험예술정신(KoPAS)은 2002년 이래 꾸준한 발자취로 올해(2022년) 실험예술제 20주년을 맞이한다. 
민간예술단체로서의 강한 생명력과 섬진강, 제월섬의 생명의 물줄기가 하나의 큰 강을 이루게 되는 원년이기도 하다. 

FANTASY, Arts in Nature - Jewol Island
We aim to a fine art festival that seeks the return to pure imagination and oriental aesthetic through nature.
The divine experiences of beauty in art and nature would lead us to in the arms of mother nature as well as in our mind.
‘Jewol’ is a bright moon hung in the clear sky, which indicates Jewol island where Seomjingang river embraces with beautiful and lively woods.
It was used to plant a kind of sapling in 1980 having all sorts of trees and plants. It is the best place for a visitor to be exposed in the finest ecological environment of Seomjingang river. There is Hamheojeong, designated as a tangible cultural property and as one of the best gazebos in Jeolla, as well as Jewol wetlands where wild animals such as a kestrel made their habitats.
Dreaming Playing School, provided by Future Education Foundation under Gokseong Country Office, presents the creative ecology education and environmental field trip to residents. Despite its perfect environmental conditions in Gokseong, absence of cultural art program caused less attention of visitors.
<Jewol Island International Nature Art Fantasy> held by SIEAF is to attempt to combine arts with the nature of Jewol island and Seomjingang river which have high qualifications educational and ecological but lack cultural art. The project aims to build specialized ecological island with artistic works in the eastern region of Jeollanamdo.

It is motivated by <A Whale from Ocean Came to the Woods> drawn by 13-year natural artist Shin Yoon.
The whale, full of trash, is flying in space gives us certain FANTASY.
What does the astronaut represent?
It is another questionary FANTASY given to the audience.

     13세 환경미술가 신윤의 <바다의 고래 숲으로 오다>에서 모티브를 가져왔다. 
     인간의 쓰레기로 가득찬 고래, 바다가 아닌 우주에서 유영하는 그 모습은 우리 에게 분명 판타지를 준다.  
     우주인이 상징하는 것은 무엇일까? 
     관객에게 물음으로 내미는 또하나의 판타지이다.

 물고기든 나무든 돌이든 사람이든
 모두 같은 하나가 파생되어 서로 나뉘어진 것이다.
 자연를 사랑하는 것은 나를 사랑하는 일이다..”

“We are all from space.
Whether it's fish, wood, stone, or a person,
All of them are derived from the same and divided into each other.
To love nature is to love me..."
